Es gibt Bücher, die lassen dich nicht mehr los – „The Ballad of Falling Dragons“ von Sarah A. Parker gehört definitiv dazu. Schon auf den ersten Seiten zieht die Geschichte von Raeve und Kaan dich mitten rein in eine Welt voller Magie, Drachen und bittersüßer Liebe, die so echt wirkt, dass man fast den Herzschlag spürt. Die Handlung ist komplex, aber nie verwirrend – vielmehr gelingt Parker, Spannung und Emotionen wunderbar zu einem dichten Netz zu verweben, das einen förmlich durch die Seiten trägt.
Der Schreibstil ist dabei ein echter Treffer: Lebendig, klar und doch voller Atmosphäre, ohne sich in langatmigen Beschreibungen zu verlieren. Besonders beeindruckt hat mich, wie glaubwürdig die Charaktere wirken – verletzlich, vielschichtig und mit Ecken und Kanten. Da fiebert man einfach mit, will sich nie komplett von den Figuren trennen. Die magische Welt, mit ihren Kreaturen und Regeln, wird so detailreich, dass man sich tatsächlich drin verliert.
Kritisch betrachtet – und ich weiß, das klingt fast gemein – könnten manche Passagen für Leser, die es lieber flott mögen, ein bisschen zu ausschweifend sein. Die emotionale Tiefe ist toll, aber die Story zieht sich an manchen Stellen dann doch leicht in die Länge. Für alle, die sich da Zeit nehmen wollen, ist das aber eher ein Plus.
Fazit: „The Ballad of Falling Dragons“ ist mehr als nur ein Fantasy-Roman – es ist ein Feuerwerk aus Magie, Liebe und dunklen Geheimnissen, das euch charmant umgarnt und nicht mehr loslässt.
