Kaum hatte ich „The Keeper of the Irish Secret“ aufgeschlagen, fühlte ich mich sofort in die raue, aber liebevolle Atmosphäre Irlands versetzt – ein Ort, den man am liebsten selbst besuchen möchte. Die Geschichte um Lily Fleury, die nach einem Herzschmerz an die windgepeitschte Westküste zurückkehrt, zieht dich hinein, als wäre man ein Teil der Familie, die um den Erhalt des alten Hauses Magnolia Manor kämpft.
Lily ist eine wirklich tolle Protagonistin: entschlossen, aber verletzlich, mit einem ordentlichen Schuss Durchsetzungsvermögen – genau die Mischung, die authentisch und sympathisch rüberkommt. Und dann ist da Dominic, der geheimnisvolle, grimmige Handwerker mit einer Stimme, die im Pub jeden aus den Socken haut. Die Funken, die zwischen den beiden fliegen, sind so lebensecht, dass man mit jedem Kapitel mehr auf ihre gemeinsame Zukunft hofft. Susanne O’Learys Schreibstil schafft es mühelos, das Gefühl von Wind, salziger Luft und dem leisen Knistern einer aufkeimenden Romanze zu transportieren, ohne dabei zu kitschig zu werden.
Besonders gefallen hat mir, wie die Geschichte mit dem Fund eines alten Briefes einen tiefgründigen Twist nimmt. Das macht das Buch mehr als nur eine Liebesgeschichte, es erzählt von Familie, Geheimnissen und dem Mut, sich der Vergangenheit zu stellen. Einziger kleiner Schwachpunkt: Einige Passagen ziehen sich gelegentlich etwas in die Länge, und bei der ein oder anderen Nebenfigur hätte ich mir etwas mehr Tiefe gewünscht — aber hey, das trübt den Lesegenuss kaum.
Alles in allem ist „The Keeper of the Irish Secret“ eine perfekte Wahl für alle, die sich nach einer warmherzigen, atmosphärischen Geschichte sehnen, die romantisch, emotional und voller irischer Lebensfreude steckt. Wenn du Lust auf eine flüssige Erzählung hast, die Herz und Seele berührt, dann greif zu – du wirst es nicht bereuen.
