Manchmal braucht es einfach diesen einen Roman, der einen direkt auf das Spielfeld katapultiert – und „Player“ von Lexy Timms schafft genau das. Die Geschichte wirbelt dich mit in eine Welt aus Football, Familiendruck und emotionalen Gegensätzen, die so lebendig erzählt ist, dass man praktisch den Staub des Spielfelds riechen kann.
Im Zentrum stehen Mila Moore, die eigentlich genug vom ganzen Football-Zirkus hat, und Jackson Grant, der Neuzugang mit einem hartnäckigen Skandal im Rücken, aber unbändigem Siegeswillen. Ihre Welten prallen aufeinander – sie versucht, dem Ganzen aus dem Weg zu gehen, er kämpft darum, anerkannt zu werden. Dabei entfaltet sich eine emotionale Achterbahnfahrt, die sowohl mit witzigen als auch mit tiefgründigen Momenten punktet.
Lexy Timms schreibt unglaublich fluffig und gleichzeitig mit einer Portion Tiefgang, die Charaktere fühlen sich echt an und man fiebert regelrecht mit jedem Seitenwechsel mit. Besonders gelungen finde ich, wie geschickt hier Sport-Action und Beziehungsdrama verwoben werden, ohne dass es kitschig wird. Die Dialoge sind lebendig, authentisch und oft richtig scharfzüngig – genau das, was eine gute Sports Romance braucht.
Klar, das Setting mag für nicht-Football-Fans etwas spezieller sein und hier und da schleichen sich Klischees ein. Auch wirken manche Wendungen ein bisschen vorhersehbar, was der Geschichte aber kaum den Drive nimmt. Für mich hätte die Spannung an manchen Stellen gern noch 'ne Schippe drauflegen können – so bleibt es am Ende ein sehr solides, aber kein außergewöhnlich überraschendes Vergnügen.
Wenn du Lust auf einen Mix aus Sport, Humor, ein bisschen Drama und dieser besonderen Prise „Gegensätze ziehen sich an“ hast, bist du hier goldrichtig. Eine locker-leichte Lektüre, die Spaß macht und ein bisschen Herzklopfen garantiert.

Another semester about to start.
And another football season kicking off with my usual lack of enthusiasm.
As the only daughter to the head coach at the University of Hunton, and the sister to the star running back on the team, my quota for all things football is exhausted. I ran out of caring about the sport years ago, but I support how important it is to them. So long as I mind my own business, make sure my dad doesn't overwhelm himself with stress, and study hard, I'll be well on my way to graduating in a couple of years to get a teaching job and eventually start a family with a nice, normal, decent guy.
A guy who won't be at all connected to the psychotic fandom that the world of football demands.
All I know is that as the fall approaches, I will most definitely not be interested in the cocky quarterback who is transferring over to play for Hunton U.

And another established team to fit in with and be counted as one of the players who belonged.
Moving over as a sophomore with a lot of promise and a knack for never losing, I hate that I come with baggage, too. I escaped the worst of a betting and cheating scandal at my former college. I didn't do anything wrong. But according to Sam Moore, Hunton's all-star champion who detests me at first sight, I'm worthless and untrustworthy.
It's not going to be easy for me, paranoid that someone will sabotage me again. It won't be fun, taking crap from the senior players who assume I'm an outsider who can't be a leader on the field.
All I'm confident about is my goal to focus and play my best. There's no room in my schedule for partying or entertaining a long list of girls who want a piece of me—which means I shouldn't have any trouble avoiding any thoughts about Coach's infuriatingly stubborn daughter who is supposed to be off-limits to me.
