Kaum hat man „The Risk“ aufgeschlagen, wird man in eine Welt katapultiert, die vor heißem Hockey-Charme und prickelnder Spannung nur so glüht. Wer auf fake-dating-Romance steht, aber nicht bloß auf seichte Geschichten, sondern auf richtig gute Charaktere mit Witz und Ecken und Kanten, der ist hier genau richtig.
Die Story dreht sich um die Tochter des Hockey-Coaches von Briar, die sich mit dem arroganten Starspieler der rivalisierenden Mannschaft, Jake Connelly, zusammenraufen muss – für ein gespieltes Paar, das bald mehr als nur gespielt ist. Kein großes Kompliziert, aber auch keine lahme Romanze: Es funkt, es knistert, und dabei wird wunderbar mit Klischees gespielt, ohne in ihnen zu versinken. Elle Kennedy liefert hier eine freche Protagonistin, die sich nicht kleinmachen lässt, und einen charismatischen Jake, der trotz seines groben Klotzes Charme versprüht. Der Schreibstil ist locker, flüssig und mit ausreichend Humor gespickt, sodass man an den Seiten klebt und das Buch in einem Rutsch durchliest.
Was mir besonders gefallen hat? Die Balance aus Drama, sexy Szenen und authentischen Gefühlen – da bleibt kein Schmunzeln oder Seufzer aus. Allerdings gibt es Momente, wo die Handlung etwas vorhersehbar wirkt, und ein paar Nebenfiguren hätten mehr Tiefe gut vertragen können. Das sind aber nur kleine Mankos in einem sonst richtig gelungenen Liebesroman.
Fazit: „The Risk“ ist genau die richtige Lektüre für alle, die smarte Romantik mit prickelndem Sport-Flair und einem Augenzwinkern mögen. Ein echter Page-Turner mit Herz, Humor und Hockey – und garantiert keine Zeitverschwendung.
