Beim ersten Kapitel hat mich sofort diese prickelnde Mischung aus Gefahr, schwarzem Humor und purer Gier nach mehr gepackt — und sie ließ mich bis zur letzten Seite nicht los.
Kurz und ohne Spoiler: Aly, eine engagierte Trauma-Nurse, flüchtet sich nachts in die Welt maskierter Online-Posts, bis ein drunken Text ihr Leben umkrempelt. Josh, der hinter einer tätowierten, maskierten Persona steht, ist Teil dieser digitalen Versuchung — und als ihre virtuelle Fantasie plötzlich real wird, kippt die Beziehung schnell von Spiel zu Überleben. Dazu schwebt immer noch eine unheimliche Bedrohung mit, die das ganze Gefüge zum Zerreißen bringt.
Die Figuren funktionieren erstaunlich gut. Aly ist kein reines Opferklischee; sie hat Ecken, Kanten und eine nachvollziehbare Zerbrechlichkeit, die sie glaubwürdig macht. Josh ist das klassische moralisch graue Alpha: gefährlich, charmant, sexuell geladen — und trotzdem nicht unbedingt sympathisch in jedem Moment. Genau das macht ihn spannend. Navessa Allens Stil ist schnell, direkt und sehr dialoglastig; die Seiten fliegen nur so dahin. Besonders gefallen hat mir, wie sie die Balance zwischen extrem heißer Erotik und schwarzem Humor hält — gerade wenn sich sehr dunkle Themen mit absurden, fast schon witzigen Momenten mischen, sitzt das Timing.
Ich hatte beim Lesen ständig widersprüchliche Reaktionen: einerseits Gelächter über freche Sprüche, andererseits ein Kloß im Hals bei Szenen, die wirklich an die Grenze gehen.
